“Should I use embroidery or screen printing on my order Amanda?”

This is a common question we answer for our clients as it can be a little confusing. Here, we break it down and make it easy to understand.

When adding your logo to clothing and apparel, embroidery and screen printing are the most popular options. At Impression Promotional Products, clients are often conflicted as to which option to choose. There are many reasons to use either method, including budget, type of clothing, and print area.

Why use embroidery?

Embroidery involves the process of reproducing your logo by stitching threads directly into the fabric. By doing so, embroidery tends to last longer than screen printing, and can give your clothing a professional look. As such, it’s often the preferred choice for business shirts, polo’s, and jackets that only require a small printing area and a sophisticated finish. Embroidery is also a great choice for caps and hats.

Although we think embroidery is pretty fabulous, it does have some limitations worth considering. Intricate logos can be difficult to recreate using embroidery, as artistic or complex fonts can be tricky to sew. This may result in a finished product that does not look great and is not on brand.

Embroidery is more suitable for smaller print areas as large logos can take tens of thousands of stitches to create. The cost to produce these large logos with embroidery is also crazy high. Therefore, if a larger print area required, it would be recommended to use screen printing.

Cost can also be a factor when choosing embroidery as the setup costs can be more expensive. However, the longevity of the printing can make it cost effective, as the embroidery results are long lasting and more durable than screen printing.

Why use screen printing?

Screen printing involves the process of reproducing your business logo using inks that are squeezed directly onto clothing and apparel.

We are big fans of screen printing, as it is *generally* cheaper than embroidery, and you can print on larger print areas. We love it because it gives our clients endless opportunities for promoting your brand. Screen printing allows you to print large, intricate designs and logos on a range of clothing and apparel styles and colours.

Screen printing can also be much quicker than embroidery, so is a great option if you require a fast turnaround. It can also be much cheaper than embroidery, as screen printed t-shirts, singlets, hoodies, work wear, and jackets can be ordered in bulk and mass produced.

There are some occasions where screen printing will not be your best choice. If you want professional, long-lasting clothing for work, embroidery is a much better option. Each time you wash an item of clothing with a screen printed logo, it will gradually fade, whereas embroidery will not fade.

Screen printing can also sometimes lack the sophistication that embroidery can offer. Screen printing tends to have a more casual look, so is an excellent choice for sporting clubs, schools, promotional clothing, and athletic wear.  As such, if you are wanting to achieve a more professional look, embroidery may be preferred.
